Find an outlet for all your creative energy! TRW education department runs an extensive programme of youth theatre and dance for young people, as well as creative holiday workshops.

Our resident groups meet weekly and work towards a performance on stage at Theatre Royal Winchester each term. All abilities welcome.

Youth Theatre

Participants in these groups can expect to learn a range of skills including improvisation, devising, and working from scripts.

Youth Theatre group 1 (8 - 10 years) - Tuesdays, 6.00 - 7.30pm

Youth Theatre group 2 (11 - 14 years) - Tuesdays, 7.30 - 9.00pm

Youth Theatre group 3 (8 - 10 years) - Wednesdays, 5.45 - 7.15pm

Youth Theatre group 4 (11 - 14 years) - Wednesdays, 7.15 - 8.45pm

Youth Theatre group 5 (14/15 +) - Thursdays, 6.00 - 7.30pm

Youth Theatre Cost: £10 per session paid in a termly block


Hip Hop

For anyone who wants to learn this incredibly popular urban dance form, featuring in more and more pop and skate videos. Attitude essential!

Boys Only Hip Hop (ages 8+) -Thursdays, 6.00 - 7.30pm
Cost: £9 per session paid in a termly block

Mixed Hip Hop (ages 8+) -Thursdays, 7.30 - 9.00pm
Cost: £9 per session paid in a termly block


Contemporary Dance

Learn the essential components of contemporary dance techniques, along with the choreographic skills needed to devise an original dance piece for performance.

(ages 8+) - Saturdays, 10.30am - 12.30pm
Cost: £11.50 per session paid in a termly block


Resident Youth Theatre & Dance: How to book

These groups are very popular therefore there is often a waiting list to attend. To add your child to the waiting list please email Caz Vale at education1@theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk with the following details:

Weekly Workshops

TRW offers additional weekly workshops for children and young people to explore their creativity within the arts. All abilities welcome.

Creative Dance (ages 5 - 7)
Thursdays 4.30pm - 5.30pm
A friendly group for children to explore their creativity through dance.

Workshop dates: 7 Jan - 25 Mar (exc 18 Feb)
Cost: £55.00 for 11 weeks

Shout, Stamp and Sing (ages 5 - 7)
Wednesdays 4.30pm - 5.30pm

This lively new group will explore the different elements of music through movement, singing and percussion.

Workshop dates: 24 Feb - 31 Mar
Cost: £30 for 6 weeks

TRW Magic School (ages 12+)
Tuesdays 6.00 - 7.00pm
Learn to create eye-popping magical illusions, read minds, influence decisions, predict the future, defy the laws of physics and amaze
friends and family, performing with cards,rope, coins and everyday objects.
With specialist tuition from professional illusionist Neil Kelso, young magicians will learn illusions to present as part of TRWs youth theatre and dance performance.

Workshop dates: 2 Feb - 16 Mar (exc 16 Feb)
Cost: £112.50 for 6 weeks (£25 of materials included in course fee)

TRW Ensemble: Weekly Young People's Theatre Company (ages 16+)
Thursdays 7.30pm - 9.00pm

This group allows participants to make their own decisions; from script and performance
style to set design and costume. Working with Claire Harvey from the award winning
River People theatre company, participants will develop professional skills as well
as performing in unique settings around Winchester, both site specific and on stage.

Workshop dates: 7 Jan - 1 Apr (exc 18 Feb)
Cost: £120.00 for 12 weeks

Winchester Rural Youth Theatre & Dance (WRYT)

TRW offers a number of opportunities to participate in theatre workshops and dance outside of Winchester city. There are no auditions and all abilities are welcome.

Youth Theatre groups offer lively weekly workshops incorporating drama, improvisation and devising.

Dancers will learn new techniques and choreographic skills in hip hop and urban street dance.

Our groups perform within their local community as well as at Theatre Royal Winchester, the Hat Fair and Bishops Waltham Festival.

Payment plans, full and part subsidies available.

Bishops Waltham Youth Theatre - Monday evenings (two groups)
Cost: £4.50 per session paid in a termly block

Swanmore Street Squad - Mondays 5.15pm ? 6.30pm
Cost: £4.00 per session paid in a termly block

South Wonston Drama Groups - Thursday evenings (two groups)
Cost: £4.50 per session paid in a termly block

Denmead Youth Theatre - Fridays 7.30pm ? 9.00pm
Cost: £5.00 per session paid in a termly block
