"a cracking good piece which combines lively comedy with Oedipal tension"
Michael Billington, The Guardian
Less Than Kind is a witty, first-class comedy set in wartime Britain, with an all-star cast headlined by James Wilby (Gosford Park, Maurice) and Sara Crowe (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Calendar Girls).
Lavish period costumes and a great set provide the backdrop for what is set to be a hugely enjoyable evening at the theatre.
Set in 1944 during the blitz, one of Churchill’s high profile War Cabinet ministers (Wilby) is having an illicit but passionate affair with a glamorous war-widow (Crowe). The widow’s son returns from evacuation in Canada a left-wing teenager, sparking furious accusations of exploitation and moral hypocrisy.
Critics have been raving about it:
"..spiked with zingy one-liners...this is superior stuff" Time Out
"..beautifully acted, full of evocative period detail and very funny" The Independent
