Using authentic handmade instruments children and their parents will learn as an ensemble to play the pulsing grooves and layered textures that embody West African, Indian and Brazilian drumming. Having mastered the technique and characteristic rhythms, pupils learn to compose their own patterns and improvisations.
Instruments will include the tintal 16 beat cycle and its vibhaga rhythmic divisions, the surdo, repinique, timba and tamborim, and the Djembe, Kpanlogo, Bougarabou and Doundoun drums, as well as shakers, bells and tuned Balafon.
