A fascinating and humorous evening, acclaimed by both regular theatre patrons and outdoor enthusiasts alike!
On the remote Siula Grande in Peru in June 1985, mountaineer Simon Yates found himself in a desperately unenviable position. He was slowly being pulled off the mountain face by his injured partner, Joe Simpson, dangling on the rope 50 metres below. His decision to cut the rope ultimately saved both their lives, leading to an extraordinary tale of survival. The story later became world-famous through the bestselling book Touching the Void, and its subsequent film and stage adaptations.
An experience like that might have been enough to put many people off mountaineering for good—but not Simon. More than 35 years later, he remains an active climber, explorer and guide, leading expeditions to some of the world's most remote mountain ranges. From the Arctic and Antarctic to Alaska and Central Asia, there are few significant ranges he has not explored.
Join Simon for an inspiring evening as he recounts his journey from that fateful climb in Peru to expeditions across some of the planet's most remote peaks. Combining drama, adventure and breathtaking scenery with his wit and dry humour, the talk is richly illustrated with spectacular images and film collected on his great climbs.
