LIVING TRADITION: THE ARCHITECTURE AND URBANISM OF HUGH PETTER

Hugh Petter will talk about the highlights of his career as an architect, including new and historic country houses of all sizes; his overseas projects; his work at The Oval in London and, more recently, his award winning new building for Trinity College in Oxford. Well known in Winchester for his controversial views on Silver Hill and Station Approach, Hugh will focus too upon his pioneering work with the Duchy and other major landowners, cited as exemplars by the UK Government, to create a popular alternative to uninspiring new housing estates whilst driving towards zero carbon homes, and the creation of new 'low carbon' places. Hugh will also discuss ADAM Architecture, largest practice in the City; how he engages with his clients, and offer advice about working with an architect to maximise the potential of your home.

About the author: Hugh Petter is an architect and urban designer, specialising in traditional design. His work includes new buildings, alterations, extensions and repairs to historic properties, as well as design consultancy and master-planning in Britain, Italy, the Caribbean, North America and Russia. Hugh's architectural and academic projects have won a number of prizes and he is committed to supporting the development of modern classicism through his numerous professional memberships. He has published various articles and essays on architectural subjects and is a visiting tutor to several colleges in the UK and abroad.
