Welcome to Theatre Royal Winchester, the vibrant heart of live entertainment in Hampshire. Housed in a beautiful, historic 400‑seat building in Winchester city centre, we are proud to be a truly modern, community‑focused venue.

We believe that the arts have the power to delight, challenge, and bring people together. That's why we work hard to ensure our stage, our building, and our team are open to all‑comers. There are no stuffy traditions or unwritten dress codes here — just fantastic nights out, friendly faces, and incredible stories told live.

Our proud history

While we look firmly to the future, we love our past. Originally opening as a cine‑variety theatre in 1914, our landmark Edwardian building has stood at the centre of Winchester's cultural life for over a century. Today, it stands beautifully restored — combining stunning heritage architecture with modern facilities, crisp acoustics, and excellent views from every single seat.

Theatre Royal Winchester doesn't operate in a vacuum. We are proudly managed by Play to the Crowd, an arts and education charity dedicated to delighting and inspiring our community through creative participation.

When you support us, you are supporting a much bigger picture:

• Funding Community Hubs: Every ticket bought and drink ordered helps fund our vital creative outreach programs across the Winchester district, including our dedicated community hubs in Stanmore and Colden Common.
• Nurturing next‑gen talent: We work hand-in-hand with local creatives and Playmakers, our charity's dedicated youth theatre, providing a platform and professional pathways for young performers and backstage creatives.
• Bringing art to the streets: We help power Hat Fair, the UK's longest-running festival of outdoor arts, keeping world-class culture free and accessible on the streets of Winchester every summer.
