Booking information

Welcome to our booking guide. Whether you are planning a family night out, booking for a school group, or require specific accessibility adjustments, you will find everything you need to secure your seats below.
All of our ticket prices (unless otherwise stated) include a booking fee and levies which directly support our beautiful listed building and our vital community activities.
How to book
We want your booking journey to be as smooth as possible. You can secure tickets in three ways:
- Online: Right here on our website, 24 hours a day.
- By phone: Call our dedicated team on 01962 840 440.
- In person: Visit our Box Office at Theatre Royal Winchester, Jewry Street, Winchester, SO23 8SB.
Box Office opening hours
Our counter and phone lines are open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am – 1pm. On performance days, our team is also available in the run‑up to showtimes to assist with on‑the‑door ticket collections and queries.
E‑tickets
To minimise foyer queuing, we strongly recommend booking in advance and using our digital ticket service.
Your e‑tickets will be emailed to you from tickets@boxoffice.playtothecrowd.co.uk.
You can print them out or simply add them to your digital wallet and show the barcode on your mobile device when you arrive.
Can't find your tickets? Please check your junk or spam folder, or log directly into your online customer account to download them at any time.
eTicket Delivery (SMS)
If available, tickets will be delivered via SMS to customers who provide a valid mobile phone number. Customers will be sent a text message 24 hours before the start of the event which will contain a unique link to their tickets.
Book early for the best price
Our ticket prices are subject to change as the auditorium fills. By booking early, you secure the best seats at the lowest possible price. To ensure the finest experience for both our audiences and the actors on stage, certain rows (such as those further back) may not be released for sale until the front sections are filled.
Ticket types, discounts, and concessions
Concessions
Where applicable, concessionary discounts apply to under 26s, full‑time students, wheelchair users, and claimants of Jobseeker's Allowance, Income Support, or Pension Credit.
Concessions are agreed on a show‑by‑show basis and may not be available for every production.
Please bring proof of eligibility with you, as you may be asked to show it at the door. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
Members, groups, and schools
Members: Enjoy 10% off price bands A & B for the majority of our performances.
Groups: Group discounts are available for selected productions. Please visit our group bookings page or speak to our team to lock in a group rate.
Schools: Educational groups can receive 33% off price bands A & B on selected performances. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact the Box Office directly to coordinate large school trips.
Pick Your Price events
For selected innovative shows, we offer a flexible pricing model. While we provide a recommended ticket price, you can personally choose to pay a lower or higher tier rate. If you can pay a little more, your generosity directly subsidises a ticket for someone who otherwise wouldn't be able to experience the magic of live theatre.
Reservations
We are happy to hold ticket reservations for up to 3 working days without payment.
Please note that we cannot hold reservations if the performance is happening in 7 days or fewer.
For our full ticket terms and conditions, please visit our terms & conditions page.
Accessibility and inclusion
Wheelchair accessible spaces
We have dedicated wheelchair spaces available for every performance. To ensure these are allocated correctly, they must currently be booked directly by speaking to our Box Office team on 01962 840 440 or email boxoffice@playtothecrowd.co.uk
Unfortunately, wheelchair spaces cannot be booked online as certain accessible seating arrays require precise configuration or the removal of seats in the auditorium.
Transferring to a seat: If you prefer to transfer from a wheelchair or mobility device into a standard auditorium seat, you are very welcome to do so. Our Front of House team will safely store your walking aid or chair in the foyer during the performance and bring it back to your seat at the interval and the end of the show.
Essential companion tickets
We offer a 50% discount on one ticket for an Essential Companion or Personal Assistant who is accompanying a visitor with accessibility requirements.
This discount is intended for assistance that goes beyond what could reasonably be expected of a friend or family member traveling with you.
Because children under 16 are always required to be under the direct supervision of an adult in our venue, companion tickets are not automatically awarded for minors.
Companion tickets must be booked directly through our Box Office team.
Assistance and support animals
Assistance dogs are fully permitted in all areas of the theatre.
When booking, please let us know if you are bringing an assistance dog so we can book an end-of-row seat. Alternatively, our staff can happily dog-sit by prior arrangement!
Please consider that other patrons may have severe allergies or fears.
Please note that no other animals are permitted inside the auditorium space.
Ear defenders & earplugs
We offer complimentary ear defenders and earplugs to borrow from the Box Office on a first‑come, first‑served basis (subject to availability).
Play to the Crowd is fully committed to ensuring our program at Theatre Royal Winchester is diverse, inclusive, and accessible to everyone.
For our full venue access information visit our access page.
Families and young theatregoers
Babes in arms
Infants under 24 months do not require their own paid ticket for the majority of our family performances. They are incredibly welcome to attend for free, provided they sit comfortably on a parent or guardian’s lap. If a separate seat is required for your infant, standard ticket charges will apply.
Booster seats
To help smaller children get a perfect view of the stage, we have a limited supply of booster seats available to borrow for Stalls seating. These are available for free from the Box Office on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
Prams, pushchairs, and car seats
For safety and evacuation reasons, prams, pushchairs, and infant car carriers cannot be taken into the auditorium. We provide a designated storage area in the foyer where these can be left during the performance.
Relaxed space during family shows
We want family visits to be completely stress‑free. For most of our family performances, we livestream the stage action directly to a screen in our relaxed area (circle level). We set this space up with cozy bean bags, books, and colouring activities — creating a relaxed, alternative environment if your little one needs a quick break from the main auditorium.
Breastfeeding and baby changing
Breastfeeding is welcomed in all public areas of our building. If you would prefer a quieter, more private space, just ask a member of our team and we will happily find one for you. Dedicated baby changing facilities are located within our accessible toilets at either end of the main foyer.
What to know before the show
Age guidance
While we try to be as clear as possible about content warnings, we rely on visiting touring companies to set these guidelines as they know their material best. For film screenings and specific age‑restricted performances, these guides are strict and you may be asked to show proof of age (such as a passport, student photo ID, PASS card, or Yoti ID).
Running times
Wherever possible, estimated running times are published directly on the individual event pages of our website. Please note that we are dependent on the touring companies providing this data, and we occasionally only receive final running times shortly before opening night.
Performance special effects
Information regarding loud noises, flashing lights, strobes, pyrotechnics, haze effects, or strong language content will be clearly displayed on our Front of House screens as you enter the building. If you have any specific sensory sensitivities or questions about a show's content before you book, please get in touch with our Box Office team who will be delighted to advise you.
